Robert Aebi GmbH with its head office in Achstetten (Germany) and its headquarters in Regensdorf (Switzerland) is an official contractual partner of Volvo Construction Equipment in Germany. In addition to construction machinery, the product range also includes road construction machinery such as asphalt finishers and rollers.

 

Customer requirement

This Volvo L150H wheeled loader is mainly used in demolition and recycling. For this purpose, the vehicle moves the breakers and strainers from one site of operation to the next. The Volvo L150H can tow trailer loads of up to 22 t with a supporting load of 1 t. To meet the requirements, the air supply system already installed on the vehicle was supplemented with components such as a trailer control valve, some solenoid valves, a quick-release valve, coupling heads and additional air reservoirs. Only with these components is it possible to operate a trailer. In addition, the wheeled loader was provided with an adapter plate for trailers with different hitch heights. A Ø 80 mm ball coupling was mounted for this purpose. For the individual hitch assembly, depending on the company's application requirements, a pin hitch was added. The red and yellow coupling head, a 12 V and 24 V ABS socket, a 12 V and 24 V light socket and a Duo-Matic quick-coupling were also installed. These components had to be positioned on the rear weight in such a way that they are also protected from minor collisions when in use, e. g. during demolition work on narrow terrain.

Solution

• Development of the adapter plate for a 22 t trailer load and 1 t supporting load
• Assembly of various trailer hitches now possible
• Reduced coupling height compared to the standard height of the towing hitch
• Force application to the rear frame of the machine
• Placement of the ABS and light voltage transformers
• Tapping the required light and voltage signals
• Placement of the sockets on the counterweight
• Making waterproof and dustproof plug connections between machine cable harness and ABS and light sockets
• Placement of the red and yellow coupling head and the Duo-Matic quick-coupling

Despite the rather large machine dimensions, the placement of the sockets and coupling heads required some skill, as the engine hood opens upwards towards the rear and, in addition, the cover of the radiators also opens towards the rear. This to only a limited installation space available for the sockets and couplings at the rear of the machine.
