Air brake system for Manitou's MRT 2660 Vision Plus rotating telehandler
Dipl.-Ing. Tietjen GmbH is developing an air brake system for a special machine by Helmut Reiter GmbH. The MRT 2660 rotating telehandler from the new MRT Vision Plus series is equipped with a Yanmar engine.
Customer:
Helmut Reiter GmbH sells and rents out forklifts, work platforms, telescopic forklifts, special vehicles and is a premium dealer for the Yale and Manitou brands. The Essen-based company has 160 employees.
Requirement:
The 3-in-1 solution for the MRT 2660 Vision Plus (telehandler, crane and aerial work platform) allows the machine to be widely applicable for handling and assembly work at heights of up to 26 metres, in this case at a large lime works near Wülfrath. Here, the rotating telehandler is being used for works traffic on the company premises and is towing a turntable trailer with a permissible total mass of 18 tonnes. The trailer is already equipped with an air brake system for the safe braking of large loads. To ensure that the trailer is braked appropriately, the tractor unit must also be equipped with an air brake system. The air from the air brake system is also used to clean tools, machines or to check the air in tyres. The operation of pneumatic tools is another useful option on remote construction sites.
Solution:
Individual components of the air brake system have to be integrated into the narrow engine compartment of the telehandler, which requires various adaptations, such as replacing the original alternator holder with a holder manufactured by Tietjen. This new holder not only accommodates the alternator, but also the bracket for the air compressor. This saves an additional holder and therefore space. The compressor is mounted between the Yanmar engine block and radiator, which ensures particularly good cooling of the compressor.
